CARITO ENGINE COMPONENT CASTING POLICY v1.0
=======================================

Document: Engine_Component_Casting_Policy.txt
Status: Safety and Design Policy
Applies To: All engine-related casting activities under the Carrito platform

--------------------------------------------------
1. PURPOSE
--------------------------------------------------
This document defines what it means to cast engine components within
the Carrito platform, with explicit attention to safety, realism,
and intended use.

It exists to prevent unsafe assumptions about home-cast engine parts
while still allowing structured experimentation.

--------------------------------------------------
2. CORE PRINCIPLE
--------------------------------------------------
Carrito does not treat engines as magic.

Combustion, pressure, heat, and fatigue are real.
Casting policy must reflect this reality.

--------------------------------------------------
3. ENGINE COMPONENT CATEGORIES
--------------------------------------------------
Engine-related cast components fall into four categories:
- External engine components
- Structural non-pressure components
- Pressure-exposed components
- Critical motion components

Each category carries different allowances.

--------------------------------------------------
4. EXTERNAL ENGINE COMPONENTS
--------------------------------------------------
Examples:
- Intake manifolds
- Exhaust manifolds
- Valve covers
- Accessory housings

Policy:
- May be cast using approved molds
- May be eligible for Class III or IV depending on design
- Home casting prohibited unless explicitly allowed

--------------------------------------------------
5. STRUCTURAL NON-PRESSURE COMPONENTS
--------------------------------------------------
Examples:
- Engine mounting brackets
- External reinforcement shells
- Decorative structural skins

Policy:
- May be cast using approved molds
- May be eligible for supervised or licensed environments
- Home casting may be allowed for Class II components

--------------------------------------------------
6. PRESSURE-EXPOSED COMPONENTS
--------------------------------------------------
Examples:
- Cylinder heads
- Intake runners under boost
- Pressurized housings

Policy:
- Restricted to licensed casting environments
- Must use documented alloys
- Must undergo post-cast inspection

Home casting prohibited.

--------------------------------------------------
7. CRITICAL MOTION COMPONENTS
--------------------------------------------------
Examples:
- Pistons
- Connecting rods
- Crankshafts
- Camshafts

Policy:
- Casting permitted only for research, educational,
  or experimental purposes
- Not eligible for baseline or street legal claims
- Must be clearly labeled as experimental

--------------------------------------------------
8. LOW-COMPRESSION DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
--------------------------------------------------
Carrito engine experimentation favors:
- Low compression ratios
- Large safety margins
- Overbuilt geometry

This allows casting processes to focus on robustness
rather than performance.

--------------------------------------------------
9. DISPLACEMENT AND LOAD REDUCTION
--------------------------------------------------
Where casting quality is uncertain, designers are encouraged to:
- Reduce displacement
- Reduce RPM limits
- Accept lower output

Power is optional.
Safety is not.

--------------------------------------------------
10. REINFORCEMENT AS DESIGN
--------------------------------------------------
Additional material used for:
- Heat absorption
- Structural reinforcement
- Casting forgiveness

may be considered intentional reinforcement,
not waste.

--------------------------------------------------
11. LABELING AND DISCLOSURE
--------------------------------------------------
All cast engine components must declare:
- Casting method
- Material
- Intended use category
- Eligibility for baseline or experimental use

--------------------------------------------------
12. INSPECTION AND LIABILITY
--------------------------------------------------
Experimental engine components:
- Shift responsibility to the builder
- Void baseline street legality claims
- Must be disclosed during inspection

--------------------------------------------------
13. SUMMARY
--------------------------------------------------
Carrito supports engine experimentation
without pretending risk does not exist.

Build boldly.
Label honestly.
